WHAT IS TRIBULATION?
In Greek the word “tribulation” means “a torture chamber”. A carpenter constructed a wooden box tailor-made for a specific person’s body measurements. The person was put inside where he could not sit down, lie down or stand up straight; putting the person in the most uncomfortable position possible, with one little air hole, in the dark, for an unspecified period of time, that usually stretched into days on end. The English phrase, “Have you ever felt boxed in?” comes from this Greek word picture. The message should be clear; God allows His children to feel “boxed in”, trapped, with no options open to them, where they cry out to Him for deliverance from an attitude of total surrender.
